How online media might help save the press

“The newspaper industry is in trouble, no one questions that. But rather than wait for papers to reinvent themselves, fresh thinking from Silicon Valley should be a big part of the solution.” Nathan Richardson, CEO of ContentNext Media, parent of paidContent, writes in the Guardian on some ways the existing technology firms could help prop up newspapers, meaning Yahoo!, Google etc. Some of this involves fixes with the ad market which look a little like collusion but help to address some of the price issues there. Another is to link from the big news portals only to original news providers, not sites that copy or otherwise repurpose news.
